Groceries
Today's tip: Buy your groceries and sundries at Bonus, located mid-Laugarvegur (the main shopping street) near Vitastig. Much lower prices than almost all other grocery stores, especially the 10-11 store located right in the heart of downtown. It's worth the walk to save a few kronur, though it does close at 6:30 pm (10-11 is open til eleven pm.) At Bonus you can buy food and toiletries, plus nylons and underclothes and some cold-weather gear (hats, gloves, socks, etc.) Pretty much all you might need.
Oh, and there is an 11-11 grocery store open 24 hours down by the water, on Skúlagata.

Hello Maria,
I am planning on traveling to Iceland in the summer of 2009. Could you give me a rough estimate of what it would cost to feed a group of 14 adults a nice picnic lunch? When I travel with these groups I usually provide some lunch meat, cheese, crackers, vegetables, humus, and bread. I don't need exact costs. After reading your blog I thought you would be good resource to give me a rough estmate to plan with.
