Silver

Hot Tip: Remember to remove your silver jewelry before taking a bath, shower or washing your hands in Iceland.

The greater Reykjavík area has a seeming endless supply of Super-Hot water, allowing you to soak and scrub to your heart's content. This is an absolute luxury in many countries, and was definitely one of the things I missed while living in San Francisco. No testy water heaters here, with their limited supply of hottish H2O to be rationed out to whole households. No guilt complexes as gallons of aqua swirl down the drain and out of sight. Just buckets and buckets of geothermally-heated water at the Nation's disposal.

But, as I've mentioned , it smells slightly of sulfur and it does a serious number on silver, causing it to tarnish within seconds. It's also near-boiling, so be sure to turn the hot-water tap off first, or risk a very literal scalding. Be warned, and enjoy.

Another tip: If you happen to bring your silver to the shower and it turns all brown, you should take a bit of toothpaste (has to be a white toothpaste) and rub the silver with it. Works wonders.
