New Years 2010
*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* Gleðilegt nýtt ár, allir! *:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* *:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* Happy New Year to you all! *:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
New years 2010, the year Iceland has to pay it's debt to foreign states like the UK and Holland. Iceland has had years of enjoyment of wealth due to its (too big) banking industry, now it has to take the pain also. Maybe for the islandic people it's not fair they (and future generations) have to the price, but even less fair it would be for other countries to pay the price for islandic faulty business. Countries like UK and Holland also have their baking problems, like any other state. Not paying means that iceland will have a very bad reputation and it will isolate itself like there is no tomorrow. It will not recieve any money from IMF and will not become a member of the EU. This means Iceland will only become poorer by not paying and even risking a war. Let's be honest who gives a damn about a country which refuses to pay it's debt and has the smallest army in the world (if any).
This photos, as well as all the others are beautiful! Thank you so much for your blog. I know with children, work and life you may find it hard to keep writing but I hope you know how many people your blog touches. I was lucky enough to visit last Feb and took along a lot of your advice. I can't wait to go back! Thank you thank you thank you! Have a wonderful new year!
floody, thanks for the amazing comment! After 500+ posts with photos I've taken a little breather, but am never fully out of the game : ) Hope your New Year is Wonderful!
Happy New Year, Maria, to you and yours! I'm glad to read that you're only on a (hopefully) short hiatus.
Iceland Eyes is still one of my favorite stops on the web. You've done a wonderful job. May we be so lucky for you to gather the energy to continue in the future!
(I was wondering the same thing about all the 'baking' troubles... must be rough, so many going without bread in such 'advanced' countries)
Congratulations to Mr Grimsson for not signing the Icesaving documents - the banks (all with new names!) are back in business and on solid ground, able to pay back the debts by their own... at least this is my impression (just got back from Iceland). And yes: a happy and good new year, and thanks for all the posts and fotos here - sometimes quite helpful to somebody who doesn't know Iceland and its people very well...
Happy+blessing new year. I think Europeans must support Iceland, many countries are in dangerous situation. Do not talk only about economy, humans must be our first choice.

I am an American slowly growing obsessed with Iceland. I came across your blog a few months ago and have now officially read every post. Can't wait for new ones!
Amazing, Barry! That's over 500 posts read...I'm honored : )
My camera is officially found and charged, and will once again be on my person more often than not from now on, so I'm sure new posts will follow. Thank you for writing and showing you support!
Oh, and Leif...right now a *daily* photo sounds overwhelming, but we'll see how things turn out ; )
I studied in Copenhagen this past year & on my way back to the states, I stopped over for a bit in Reykjavik (around Christmas time). I just wanted to let you know that I really had a fantastic time and absolutely loved my stay. I am hoping to come back within the next year - and your blog will have to suffice until I can get myself back.

What I'm really curious to know more about are the UK and Holland's baking problems that you mention. Lack of ovens? Yeast?
Happy New Year. I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday! Love reading your blog and looking at your beautiful photos.
